In most cases there is a reason why the vehicle has been unable to complete a ‘Self Regeneration’ of the DPF filter and as such has brought the warning light on. The most common fault code is P2002 which is that the DPF is full of soot.
All Diesel vehicles fitted with a DPF filter are programmed to reduce the soot level by themselves and only in a small number of cases the driving required for this to occur has not taken place.
The DPF filter is controlled by a differential pressure sensor which calculates the soot content of the filter. Once the Soot content of the filter reaches a certain load limit the filter is unable to clear itself.
